Project: Disquiet Junto

This is my contribution to Marc Weidenbaum's first "Junto" project. My piece consists of field recordings of ice cubes falling, swirling, squeaking, etc. mixed w/ambience, piano, and acoustic bass. I recorded all of the ice sounds using FiRe on my iPhone.

Project: Benjamin Dauer - Saturation Event

"Saturation Event" is a sonic exploration of the place that exists between being awake and asleep. Space and time seem to fold in on themselves and elements of reality become distorted.

Experimenting with analog tape saturation I wanted to capture some of the feeling, that haze or cloud, that descends upon your mind just before letting go and drifting off. Slow, steady, and enveloping - layers of music peel away and seem to crumble, or fall apart, separately from the whole.

Project: The Dwindlers - Dreams

My musical collaboration with poet, Michelle Seaman, began in 2002 in the "Grey Sea" metropolis of Chicago, continued in a home recording studio surrounded by the pine trees and "Pollinators" of North Carolina, and thrives now among the cherry blossoms, gingko trees, museums, and politics of Washington, D.C.

Project: Hibernacula Pt. I

Continuing work on our Pollinators benefit project, this next piece is dedicated to the bats.

Bats are disappearing by the tens of thousands because of a disease called ‘White Nose Syndrome’. Scientists are unsure what is causing this disease. From an anthropocentric view, humans need bats to control insect populations and to pollinate the food we eat. Even more important, however, is the fact that these mammals deserve a healthy life span. They contribute a rhythmic, beautiful grace to our delicate ecosystem.

Improvisation: June 13th, 2010

This song was born from continued research for my ongoing Pollinators project. Bats are the next group I am composing music for and this was a test of the various sounds I might use for the piece.

Sound Score: Exploding Into Space

This abstract and textural work was presented on the Morehead Planetarium's GlaxoSmithKline theater's 60 ft diameter dome screen. Using imagery akin to 60's liquid techniques developed for psychedelic light shows the 13 minute 45 second short turns the surface of the dome into a variety of motion textures at times violent, energetic or calming. Thank you David for the opportunity.

I recently worked with New York-based dance company, Palissimo, using some of my Offsets material from earlier this year. Offsets is a long-distance musical collaboration between myself & Scotland-based Dominic Dixon.

From Distance Recordings: Offsets is characterized by gentle washes of rich ambient textures, subtle guitar loops, the occasional static interference and sparse rhythmic sections.

Project: Project 168

The concept of Project 168 was to make an EP in 7 days (168 hours). There were many artists who participated in this event so please give them a listen as well if you stop by the project site.
